Meet Rodrigo

Meet Rodrigo, a seasoned realtor who began his career in sales. We sat down with him to learn how he landed his first sales job and got his career off the ground. We hope his insights will inspire and guide you on your own journey.

1. Can you share the steps you took to land your first entry-level job?

I knew early on that I had the personality and basic skill sets for sales. Luckily, in that industry, the prerequisites don’t pose a big barrier to entry. However, to prepare for what would be an entry-level corporate tech sales job, I did a door-to-door sales internship while I was in college. This internship helped compound the foundational success principles that are key to succeeding in the profession. Fast forward to today: as long as I have my laptop and internet, I can help my clients buy and sell real estate.

2. Were there any tools, or resources that helped you stand out as a candidate?

The job market, like most desirable things, can be highly competitive to enter. One thing that helped me tremendously was reaching out to people in my network who were already in the field and gaining specific experience or qualifications to stand out as a candidate. This allowed me to learn from their experiences, understand their day-to-day roles, and get a foot in the door on how to transition from candidate to employee.

3. What advice would you give to someone looking to secure their first entry-level position today?

The advice I’d give to someone looking for their first entry-level position is that it’s a numbers game, no matter what you’re looking for. Don’t let analysis paralysis hold you back. Remember your 5 P’s: Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance. And lastly, make sure you plan in 5- to 10-year terms from a career standpoint if you want stability, security, and growth.
